Justice for Linda Becerra Moran: Demand for Accountability and Community Action
Our sister, Linda Becerra Moran who received services at our organization has been brutally murdered by the Los Angeles Police Department. We are heartbroken by the tragic death of Linda, a trans woman who was criminally shot on February 7th after trying to seek help from the LAPD. Linda was a beautiful and resilient individual, known for her willingness to survive and achieve her dreams but unfortunately, she got caught up in the horrific homelessness system and was never able to find the appropriate support to build a life.
“This is yet another example of law enforcement being ill-equipped to respond to people in crisis and the need to focus on investing in community-based responses,” shares Bamby Salcedo, President and CEO of The TransLatin@ Coalition.
Our organization and Linda’s family demand a thorough and transparent investigation and accountability process looking into the circumstances surrounding Linda’s death. This is a critical step toward ensuring justice for Linda and her family.
Our organization stands in solidarity with Linda’s family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. We remain committed to advocating for justice, equality, and the protection of all Two Spirit, Trans, Gender Expansive, and Intersex (2TGI) individuals. We will continue to ensure their voices are heard and their rights upheld.
In partnership with The Sidewalk Project (TSP), National Harm Reduction Coalition, and Coalition to Abolish Slavery & Trafficking (Cast) a vigil will be held on Friday, March 14, at 10 AM at Los Angeles Police Department Headquarters (100 W 1st St, Los Angeles, CA 90012) to honor Linda’s life and demand #Justice4Linda. We invite the community to join us in solidarity.
